Bosses for Babies

How This Boss Makes an Impact for Children in Florida

One of Vistra’s values is meaningful relationships—with team members, clients, and the community. Since its founding, Vistra has supported activities that help families and children, including The Laundry Project by Current Initiatives, which turns laundromats into centers of hope (including entertainment for children), and Positive Spin, Inc. This agency assists children and families to live healthy, stable, and productive lives. They proudly developed and continue to help coordinate the annual CEOs in Schools program which recruits and facilitates a CEO spending a day in each of the 150 Hillsborough County elementary schools. As a result of this program, CEOs have taken the initiative to support principals and teachers, garner resources to outfit sparse media centers, provide operations consulting, give financial resources to support students, help establish parent organizations, and facilitate safety improvements, among many other impactful actions. This program has helped facilitate partnerships between school leaders and business leaders while enhancing the education of our elementary school students.

Vistra leaders also look internally to support team members with benefits that make a difference for their own families: they offer paid time off, parental leave for birth or adoption of a child, short-term disability insurance that can be used for childbirth recovery, lactation breaks for nursing mothers, paid holidays and personal leaves of absence. Team members and their families are offered health insurance, telehealth, life insurance, licensed counseling, life balance and family care resources, legal and financial resources, and will preparation services. Depending on role or position, team members may work hybrid and flexible work schedules to manage work and family responsibilities. They may volunteer at their children’s schools during the workday under the Vistra Cares program. Vistra also offers flexible scheduling between Christmas and New Year's to allow team members to spend time with family.
