How This Boss Makes an Impact for Children in Florida

They offer comprehensive parental leave for births or adoptions to full-time employees after twelve months with the company, with child-bearing parents eligible for up to six weeks of leave, and non-child bearing parents eligible for up to two weeks. Bio

With over 30 years of experience in the banking sector, Calixto “Cali” Garcia-Velez serves as President & CEO of Banesco USA, a leading community bank with seven locations between South Florida and Puerto Rico. Since joining Banesco in 2021, he has overseen the strategic growth of the bank, which has doubled in size within this period.

Throughout his three decades in banking, Mr. Garcia-Velez has held notable positions with established financial institutions.  Prior to joining Banesco, he served as Executive Vice President at FirstBank Puerto Rico. Preceding this, he established a very successful career with Citibank, where he held various executive roles in Florida, California and across several markets in the United States.

Highly engaged in the business and civic community in South Florida, Mr. Garcia-Velez serves as Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of United Way Miami. Previously, he has served in many volunteer roles in organizations such as the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the Florida Bankers Association, the Cuban Banking Study Group, and the Alliance for South Florida National Parks Trust.

Mr. Garcia-Velez is a proud graduate of the University of Miami, where he received both his bachelor’s and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Miami Herbert Business School.
