Bio
Mark T. McQueen became Superintendent of Bay District Schools on August 1, 2023. Since then, the district has reached its highest performance levels in years and is on track toward an overall “A” rating—one of his key priorities. Graduation rates have climbed to a record 91.4%, no campuses are in turnaround status for the first time in 17 years, student attendance has improved, staff vacancies have decreased, and students have earned more than 2,500 industry certifications—advancing college, career, and life readiness.
Before joining Bay District Schools, McQueen served as City Manager of Panama City, leading long-term recovery and revitalization efforts following Hurricane Michael. He previously served 36 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a two-star general. His final assignment was Commanding General of the 108th Training Command (IET), overseeing more than 8,000 soldiers across 44 states and Puerto Rico.
His military decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Combat Action Badge, among others. Originally from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, McQueen lives in Southport, Florida, with his wife, Karen Lynette McLeod. They have two children, Taylor and Thomas.
